Emily Quinn, LAPC
Licensed Associate Professional Counselor
At the core of therapy, beyond specialized interventions and exercises, is a relationship. My role as the therapist is to create a space of safety and trust where the client can cultivate curiosity about their relational and behavioral patterns. I have experienced firsthand the power of a strong therapeutic relationship, and my goal is to provide that for you. I approach therapy from a deeply person-centered perspective, meaning I believe you are the expert of your own experience. I am simply a guide helping you navigate the often challenging (and exciting!) process of personal growth.
Therapy does not have to be a stoic, solemn, experience – in fact, I believe humor and levity is an essential element of this practice. The world these days often seems to lack laughter and compassion. I aim to infuse these elements into our practice together. I use an eclectic mix of therapeutic approaches along with my person-centered basis, including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and somatic strategies.
My counseling experience is largely rooted in trauma-informed care. I spent four years as a counselor working with patients receiving abortion services and completed my clinical internship at Pittsburgh Action Against Rape helping clients process traumatic sexual experiences. I enjoy working with adult women and gender non- conforming individuals of all ages and a range of issues: sexual trauma, grief and loss, pregnancy outcomes, gender dysphoria, anxiety and depression, low self-esteem, social anxiety, and PTSD among them. I am a born and raised Pittsburgher. I received my undergraduate degree from Ohio University and my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Pittsburgh. I’m working towards obtaining my clinical license and continually learning. In the meantime, I enjoy spending time with my three cats and knitting! If you’re ready to take the next step in your journey, I look forward to empowering and encouraging you along the way.
